ABOUT ME
Since an early age I’ve had an interest in cars. I fondly remember our family cars, the Austin 1100, the Austin Maxi and the Vauxhall Cavalier Mark 1, all great cars if you ignored the rust!
My first car at the age of 17 (bought with the money from my paper round and before I’d even passed my driving test) was a 1973 classic mini Clubman saloon (GAA 490N, sadly long departed!) The mini was already 15 years old at the time, so was my first introduction to “classic” car ownership.
I drew a lot as a child and started painting still lifes, landscapes and pattern inspired artwork as a hobby in my early 20’s. I then bought my second classic mini, a 1985 Mini Mayfair that I modified (B725 NLR) and I started attending car shows and taking photographs of cars. This lead me to combine my twin passions for art and cars by turning the photographs into paintings which were then featured in classic mini magazines, which resulted in a number of commission paintings.
Through word of mouth and social media people heard about my work and combined with my passion for Morgan’s and Caterham’s (my brother-in-law has owned two Caterham Sevens) this led to many commission drawings and paintings, with my Morgan artworks being displayed in the showrooms of Morgan dealers “Richard Thorne Classic Cars” and “Williams Morgan”.
I have exhibited my drawings and paintings at Beaulieu Motor Museum, Brooklands Museum and at a number of classic car garages. My artwork has also been featured in a number of classic car magazines.
I currently own a 2015 Renault Twingo MK3 tce dynamique which is my daily driver and a 2003 MG tf160, which is my weekend car, and we have a tabby cat called Abbie who likes to help me with my artwork.
