"20" mph speed limit sign, re-imagined in Rothman Racing colours
This is a genuine, de-commissioned “20” mph Road Sign hand-painted in the colours of the Rothman Racing with the Porsche name and then aged to show some of the original colours and reflective parts of the original road sign underneath.
It measures approx. 24 inches / 60cm round.
Rothmans International Plc were a British tobacco manufacturer, with brands such as Rothmans, Dunhill and Players. Their logo consisted of blocks of blue and white, separated by red and gold pinstripes.
The Porsche 956 in Rothmans colours debuted in 1982, taking the top 3 places at Le Mans that year, with drivers Derek Bell and Jacky Ickx winning. The Porsche Rothmans team won Le Mans 4 times, before the sponsorship ended towards the end of 1987.
A 4-wheel drive version of the Porsche 911SC in Rothmans colours driven by Rene Metge and Dominique Lemoyne won the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally, driving 6000 kilometres across arid, brutal conditions.
