"10" mph speed limit sign, re-imagined in the colours of Mika Hakkinen's helmet and the McLaren MP4/14
This is a genuine, de-commissioned “10” mph Road Sign hand-painted in the colours of the 1999 McLaren MP4/14 and Mika Hakkinen’s helmet and then aged to show some of the original colours and reflective parts of the original road sign underneath.
It measures approx. 17.5 inches / 45cm round.
“The Flying Finn” was the 1998 and 1999 Formula One World Champion, beating Eddie Jordan to the title in 1999 by just 2 points, this was the year that Michael Schumacher was injured. It was at the Italian Grand Prix that Hakkinen span out and was forced to retire whilst leading the race and sat under a tree visibly distraught.
His helmet was a simple blue and white striped design, which included the colours of the Finnish flag. It had 3 stripes in 3 different shades of blue, going from dark to lighter blue.
