"Traffic Lights" road sign, re-imagined in Hippy / Hippie Porsche 917 colours
This is a genuine, de-commissioned “Traffic Lights” sign hand-painted in the Hippy / Hippie psychedelic design and colours used on the Le Mans and Kyalami Porsche 917's and then aged to show some of the original colours and reflective parts of the original road sign underneath.
It measures approx. 27 × 24 inches / 69 × 61cm.
Martini Racing’s Hans-Dieter Dechant offered their 1970 Le Mans long-tail Porsche 917/043 to Porsche's recently appointed designer Anatole Lapine to “decorate”. It was originally planned as a white-with-red script car, but Lapine penned a swirling Hippy design, laying down purple and then matt fluorescent green on the factory fresh white paintwork, using some 1,500 spray cans to complete it over the Le Mans week. It was driven to 2nd place by Larrouse and Kauhsen.
The Porsche 917/021 also had this design, but was then painted in a red and yellow psychedelic design for sponsor Shell, it came 2nd at the Kyalami 9 hours, driven by Siffert and Ahrens.
